Umoja Village is partnering with the Etherredge Center to present the documentary Descended from the Promised Land: The Legacy of Black Wall Street. This film is about the Tulsa Race Massacre in which North Tulsa’s Greenwood District, the most prosperous Black community in America, was destroyed in 1921. After the film, there will be a panel discussion with prominent African American leaders and historians from Aiken to answer questions from the crowd. Each ticket will include access to a pre-show reception in the Etherredge Center lobby.

Umoja Village is a South Carolina-based charitable organization that encompasses a strategic alliance of Blacks and African Americans united with a common goal: To unify underserved populations and the entire community to bring about positive and sustainable change. This event will be a part of Umoja Village’s “Unity Weekend” which includes “Shoutfest” on Saturday and the Unity Golf Tournament on Monday.
